Rossendale Raptors raring to go

Rossendale Raptors are preparing for the new season, which sees them make the step up to the England Basketball National League.

While it might be a big step up in standard, both for the players and the club, they feel ready for the challenge which lies ahead.

Chairman Ken Masser said: “We have worked hard during pre-season to make sure we are prepared for the challenge of the National League and have received backing from the Borough Council and Rossendale Leisure Trust.

“It will be good to welcome teams from all over the north of the UK to Rossendale.”

Head coach Jim Fry added: “We have recruited some new players to blend with our already talented local squad.

“I think we have the right blend of youth and experience to be competitive and hopefully we'll surprise a few people and compete for the league title.”

Matches will be played on Saturdays at Haslingden Sports Centre, starting at 5.15pm.

They start the season on Saturday with a home friendly against last season’s league champions, Huddersfield Heat.

It starts at 6pm with admission £1 for children and adults.
