Conor Porter and Mollie Campbell coming to Raptor Camp
Two of Rossendale's most successful basketball players will be attending Raptors junior camp tomorrow and Friday. Conor Porter, starring with Division 1 side Manchester Magic, will be attending on Thursday at 9am and Mollie Campbell, England International, will be attending camp on Friday.
Conor Porter
Rossendale high flyer Conor Porter has been rewarded for his promise on the basketball court with a scholarship at the University of Salford. The 18-year-old defied his tender years last season to play an integral role in Manchester Magic’s promotion back to the top tier of the English Basketball League after a two-year absence. As well as contributing to the men’s side in the past two seasons, Conor has also captained the Magic’s Under 18 squad and led the Loreto Academy team to College Cup glory in Nottingham just last weekend. Despite being a very talented footballer, Conor turned down the chance to join Rochdale’s youth academy in favour of pursuing a basketball career and joined Rossendale Raptors and the Manchester Magic junior set-up in 2009.
Conor will be attending camp tomorrow morning at 9am.
Mollie Campbell
Mollie lives in Whitworth in Rossendale and attended Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. Despite being only 18 Mollie has already represented her country, and played senior women's division 1 basketball for the Manchester Mystics. Mollie is hoping to attend a NCAA Division 1 college in America next year and has already flown over the states to have a look around some potential universities.
Mollie will be speaking with campers on Friday morning about how she's gone from Rossendale local girl to international basketball star.
