Wins against Stockport and Oldham in the final two games of the season secured promotion and the England Basketball Division 4 North Title.
In the clubs 50th year, and first season in the National League the team have won 18 games in a row to secure the title at thier very first attempt. The team, coaches and fans celebrated following the 116-66 win over Oldham and now look forward to the playoffs.
The Raptors have been led all season by star man Stephen Gayle who is delighted with the teams performance this year. "Its been a terrific season so far and I'm really enjoying playing here. It's a really well run club, and a great bunch of lads. Hopefully we can now grab a couple more wins in the playoffs and pick up some more silverware!"
Head Coach Jim Fry was delighted "I'm so proud of the players. They've dug deep all season against some difficult challenges. We've had key players pick up serious injuries, we've had some problems with training venues; but despite all that we've consistently performed every weekend. To win 18 games in a row is tough no matter who you are."
"We're excited for the playoffs and we're excited for next season. I'm confident that we'll keep the team together and step up for the next level. No doubt we'll look to add a couple of players as well - but all that can wait. Hopefully we've got three games left this season, and we're really focussed on trying to bring home the playoff title to add to the league trophy."
Raptors have been ranked second in division 4 across the country which means that they play Stockport Falcons on Saturday 24th March at 5:15pm, Haslingden Sports Centre. Raptors have beaten Stockport twice so far this season, with the last victory coming away at Stockport just a week ago. Despite that, Stockport will not be underestimated and have a lot of talented players that can beat anyone on their day.
It proves to be a testing match and an exciting next step in the Raptors most successful season in their history.
