For the second year in the row, Rossendale Raptors have been awarded the Surrdige Sport award for Rossendale Community Sports Club of the Year.
The Rossendale Sports Awards were held on Friday 20th July at Haslingden Sports Centre and with 175 people in attendance it was the biggest crowd in the awards 7 year history. There was an opening activity session including dance mats, sports walls as well as information stands from all the awards supporters. Club sports scientist Phil Bolton of PB performance was an awards sponsor and engaged the audience with an exciting display showcasing his sports testing equipment.
Following an inspiraton speech from wheelchair basketball, athletics and table tennis Paralympian Josie Cichokyi the awards progressed to the penultimate award where the Raptors were recognised for their excellent progress this year. The Club have developed new basketball sessions in Bacup, entered a womens team in the league for the first time, and been crowned National Division 4 champions after winning the Northern Division and the National Division 4 playoff final.
This is the first time any club has won the award two years in a row and a terrific achievement for the club and a testament to all the hard work put in by the clubs volunteers.
Jim Fry also won Coach of the Year following a terrific campaign and leading the team to the National Title.
