Raptors Ladies first game of the season was at last years winners Stockport Lapwings on Thursday night. With only 4 players from last season, the Raptors new look team had no luck at the basket and struggled to handle the vastly experienced Lapwings.
Lapwings ran away with the first half 35-6 as the Raptors looked to find their feet. Heads were high for the beginning of the third quarter as the team began to move the ball better and found Michelle G. open to start scoring from the paint and a second 3 pointer.
Due to a team effort on the defensive end of the court, the Raptors won the third quarter 10-8. The Lapwings experience took over in the 4th as bad luck at the offensive end continued for the Raptors, with a final score of 65-20. Beth and Lisa also contributed to the points, while Sarah Dormer. Jackie and Lizzie worked hard on the point. Chloe and Niamh put pressure on the wings as did Ebony who chased any defensive fast break. All-in-all a better start than the score-line shows as the team showed what they can do at both ends of the court and areas that we can improve on.
We now look forwards to the return of Michelle T. Sarah Gallagher and Dianne Tibbs to give a little more height and experience at the back, and a surprise return to training this Tuesday by……
You'll have to wait and see - but it looks like its going to be a good season for the Raptors.
