U16's progressing well

The u16s again took a  young team across to Shuttleworth College. The opposition this week were Burnley who had won convincingly the last time the teams met, holding Rossendale to only 31 points in that game.

Burnley pressed from the start and Ross struggled to get out of their own half and were 13 points down before they managed a score. As in the previous game it was Dominic Martin who got the first points on the board. The team worked hard and started to break the press with Sam Chicken leading the team well.

Burnley were a much taller and older side and also had players with national league experience but our boys never gave up. The lead continued to widen as the game progressed but we continued to work hard against the press that Burnley ran for the full game.

There were some notable moments, Dominic scored his first competitive three pointer, Matt Fry and Ben Pointon both managed to score inside against much taller opposition and James Robinson went on a solo run of three baskets without reply plus had several rejections.

We finished the game having lost 102 – 61 but there were so many positives. We nearly doubled our score from the last game against this opposition, had 4 players in double figures with Nick Yarwood leading the scoring this week. Our defence and rebounding continues to improve and both players and coach enjoyed the game, and that is what it is all about.
